Master cylinders help please
andrew-theasby - 11/10/03 at 12:27 PM

Hi, i bought a stuart taylor pedal box from someone a while ago which came with 2 wilwood master cylinders. One had written on it "rear only" and stamped .700, the other "front only" and stamped .625. I thought the number would be the bore of it but surely the fronts would require a bigger bore? But anyway can anybody tell me what size master cylinders i should be using as im using 4 pots on the front and xr4 rear callipers. Pressumably ill need a bigger one for the 4 pots to move more fluid into them or have i got it all the wrong way round?

No.

You need the small one for the front because you need to create a higher pressure not a larger volume.

I cant remember which physics law it is but it states P1 x V1 = P2 x V2

So the greater the ratio betweeen the master cylinder and slave will give you a larger brakeing force.

Hope that helps

I wrongly fitted my ST box/cylinders with the big one to the front and Ian Grey told me to swap them round for optimum performance. As Mk Ninja says its about pressure not volume but after that all the tech stuff went over my head
