I have heard the term Lobro knocked around on here many times, i still dont know what it refers to, i know its driveshafts but what in particular?

I have rear shafts and diff on my new project and would be interested to know what "Type" mine are.

They do not have the torx bolts holding them in. See picy in my archive.

I am planning a Bike INstallatina nd am curious where the speedo pick up is located? I guess they are reprogramable, to suit different tyre sizes? any idea on ball park cost for one of these?

any thought appreciated.

Lobro = shaft bolted (with torx head bolts) to flanges sticking out of the side of the diff.
Tripode are the other type and they have splined ends that push into the diff.
They use different types of CV joint and as far as I know all disk braked rears are lobro and all drummed are tripode.

Lobro CV joints are characterised by the fact that they bolt onto mating flanges on the diff and hubs.

Tripode CV joints are the typ that have a splined stub shaft which slides into a mating internal spline in the diff and hub/drive flange.

The main benefit I can see with Lobro joints is the ease of removal and re-fitting as nothing else has to be dismantled. I'm sure there are other reasons for the different types - anyone???

DOES ANYONE KONW IF THE BOLT-ON DRIVE SHAFTS CAN BE FITTED TO A DIFF WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY FITTED WITH PUSH-IN DRIVESHAFTS?
IN OTHER WORDS, ARE THE INTERNALS OF THE DIFFS IDENTICAL? FROM MEMORY, THE HAYNES MAUAL SHOWS THE BOLT-ON SHAFTS ARE RETAINED
BY A C-CLIP, BUT WILL THIS C-CLIP AREANGEMENT FIT A DIFF WHICH DIDN'T ORIGINALLY USE A C-CLIP?

Personally I wouldn't worry, you can find a 2l Sierra with rear disks in any scrappy and rip off the whole rear end for next to nothing.

TL - yes, the diffs are the same internally. You just need to remove the tripod drive units and replace them with a pair of drive flanges from a Lobro-equipped diff. I've only seen Lobro joints on cars with disc brakes but I don't know if this is always the case.
