Speedo cable outlet on a Type 9 box
David Jenkins - 20/6/02 at 01:06 PM

Folks,

Just a quick question - should I expect to get any oil coming out from the bearing where the speedo cable connects to my ex-Sieera type 9 gearbox?

The reason for asking is that I am making a sender to fit in place of the speedo cable, and I need to know whether I need to make any allowances for oil in the design (i.e. a drain hole).

It won't affect the way it works - I just need to know!

cheers,

David

not that you want to change your box but....

the type 9 I got from my e reg ford granny v6 donor had an electric sender already on it!

I wonder if they can be retrofitted? might be worth a visit to the scrappy?

Unless it fits on an existing mk 9 I won't bother! After all the effort I've put into this box I'm not going to give up yet...

Apart from cleaning & painting, I've put an oil filler hole on the top lid and extended the gear change.

The sender's almost finished, and the code relies on getting 7 pulses per rev of the speedo cable output shaft. I don't suppose the Granny gives more than 1 or 2 pulses per turn. I don't feel like re-doing the maths in my program!

cheers,
