probably a numpty question but want to be sure - what type of sierra handbrake cable should I get for a rear drum conversion kit ?
am I right in trying to source a disc compatable one ?
hi mark
yep you want a disc brake sierra handbrake cable
cheers
marc
yeah but the damn thing will be too long, so you'll have to fit a new end on it. MK engineering can supply the end piece.
or cut it in the middle and use cleats.

as above...

cheers everyone - now a few more questions
what is a cleat ?
where do I get them ?
anyone any pics to show me how they work etc ?
I soldered a nipple on the end of mine, but it was a pain in the arse..
If I were going to do it again I would aim to use a two piece cable like the one in the polo.....it has threaded sections on one end so you can adjust
which cable gets more tension at the handbrake lever end....might make getting the balance right for SVA a bit easier
For my drum brakes I cut the cable to length and mig welded and end on it.
It hasn't come off yet.

here's the picture again. i really should put it in my archive......... it's probably getting on for appearing in 6 threads now
they're from b&q, next to all the wire rope stuff strangely enough.
EDIT : it is now in my archive
handbrake join with cleats

I wrapped BOTH my ends around the semi-disc/puller type thing and then used two cleats on either side, therefore clamping the slipping motion from
both sides...
Steve
the picture definetely helps - cheers
now I know what I am looking for and what I am supposed to do with them !!!
