does anyone know if sierra 4x4 front driveshafts have the same
ends as rear driveshafts? Reason for asking is that I need to
narrow my 2wd disc brake sierra rear end, and I just saw a photo
which looks like 4x4 front shafts are a couple of inches shorter
than the rear shafts; If they were interchngeable, I could use
front shafts in the rear, thus narrowing rear end. Anyine got
some 4x4 front shafts?
terry what drives do u want, i have complete sierra 4x4 for breaking
Hello...
4x4 front shafts are completely different to rears I'm afraid. Different sized splines etc etc. They are a lot shorter than the rears but they
are also the same length whereas you require different length shafts either side at the rear.
Sorry!

Baz: I thought I wanted the front shafts, but from what LIAM says, it might not work.
Liam: Thanks for the advice: Although the splines are different, do you know if the front CV joints have the same 6 bolt PCD as the rears, or is it a
different arrangement? Also, you say the rear shafts need to be different lengths: Is this just for a Locost installation, or are they un-equal even
in a Sierra?( I could just measure the ones I've got if I could be arsed.)
Thanks so far guys.
The front diff on the XR4x4, as with most FWD cars, is off centre meaning the shafts are unequal length. I've got a pair in the garage if you
are interested but I don't have the socket to take the hubs apart! Don't think they have the six bolt CVs tho.
Chris
Terry,
The Sierra rear shafts are unequal in length aswell.
The diff is still centrally mounted but it bulges out on the nearside so the shaft has to be shorter.
Shortening the shafts isn't that hard- have a word with Luego as until recently their main kit (the Velocity) had shortened drive shafts to keep
the track the same as the MK2 Escort.
If you're interested in doing it yourself then there is a guide on Rorty's website:

It's actually about lengtheniing them but I'm sure the principal is the same!

James
Thanks for the info, Guys
