From the haynes manual page 167. P100 gearbox is a type nine 5 speed.
1st......3.91:1
2nd......2.29:1
3rd.......1.38:1
4th.......1.00:1
5th........0.82:1
reverse...3.66:1
from memory p100,s are low first, then huge gap to 2nd
judging by those ratios i'd agree with you there conrod. first gear will not be much use apart from wheelspin if your not careful!
Ned.
Donuts anyone ?
that makes sense the vehicle was a commercial after all. Need that first gear to move the 10 Tons of crap you just loaded on the back !!!
Just notices I posted this in the wrong place as well - should have been in eng and trans..... well it was getting late

You have to start off with 10 tons because 9 1/2 tons would fall though the rust holes in the butt
Not wrong there Mark, the term FORD SIEVE-ARA based vehicle comes to mind. My dads P100 (hence the free gearbox) is like an aero all over. No amount of welding is going to save it !!!
