Steering Column Qs
greggors84 - 7/11/03 at 05:22 PM

I have been fitting my steering column and noticed some bits that look odd. I apologise in advance for the poor quality of the pictures, my brother took the decent camera away with him.

Where the triangulated plasitc bit of the column goes inside the main column i noticed the plastic has cracked, is this a problem? Also can i move this bit out a bit more, because i need a bit more length other wise the wheel interferes with the contact block for the horn and the piece of metal below it.

Also i notice this bit looks different to other columns i have seen.

Sorry if im talking rubbish, but any help is appreciated.

Thanks

What is the column off?

I do not recognise the convaluted section in the photo

in photo 2 the spring is the same as mine but not the actual bit you've circled.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if that's a sierra steering column then the collapsible section has done exactly as planned,

Had the doner car been in an accident?

If true than maybe time for a trip to the breakers yard for another.

Hope it helps Dan.

Which bit is the collapsable section? The plastic bit? Do you know this for sure?

Mark Allanson - 8/11/03 at 05:53 PM

The sierra column should look like this, the colapsable section is at the top, yours seems to be at the bottom. Is yours adjustable? Rescued attachment Sierra Column2.jpg

Sorry, my mistake getting my front and rears mixed up.

Dan.

My column is adjustable up and down, does this make the whole thing different?

Mines an adjustablle column like yours and looks the same. My plastic triangulr bush is also partially cracked. There are 2 of these bushes so that the innner section can move taking up the play. As long as the bush is not so bad that it could fall out what the hell. Just make sure that lateral play is minimal. ie the upper bush is in position.
