Would I be ok using normal 8.8 M8 bolts and nylocks for securing my prop?
Obviously making sure they are not too loose or too tight
I reckon so; it is the friction of the surfaces when clamped together that keeps the kaboodle in place; 8.8 is more than adequate.
if you look up the force required to sheer four 8.8 M8 bolts then it has to be much much much more than your engine can ever produce.
make sure you are using bolts (solid shank) and not set screws (threaded all the way).
and don't buy them from B&Q but proper bolt shop with marked heads.

I`d pay the extra few pence and use 10.8`s........have you seen what a flailing propshaft can do to a car (not to mention the driver/passengers legs...)
8.8's will probably shear off before you get to the specified torque.
Mines held on with m10x1 8.8 bolts and its fine...
8.8 will be fine.
But use 10.9 socket caps instead.
They look nicer and will make you feel better.
Pat...
I have used 8.8s and three diffs have let go and the bolts are still there!!
