Darren at GTS is trying to find out for me if the Sierra rear hub seals and bearings are identical to the Sierra front upright seals and bearings.
I've just stripped mine down and they appear identical.Thought someone out there might know and save darren some searching.

The front bearings and seals are definately smaller than the rear bearings and seals. Certainly the case for hubs with rear discs, couldn't be
certain for rear drums

I got some for the nephew for his J reg 1.8 cvh and they were same.

Judging by the ones I bought for my 4x4 today:
if you have disc brakes then they vary in size between ABS and non-ABS aswell.
God knows why!

Twice I got the wrong parts from Quickco. Eventually had to take the mangled remains of each oil seal in so they could identify the right part from
them.
Seems there is confusion over ABS. My J reg donor didn't actually have an ABS braking system, but had hubs capable of having the ABS sensors
fitted, so when they originally asked me "does the car have ABS", and I said "no", I got the wrong parts - Logical.
Advice - dismantle and keep old parts for identification of new parts required.

more advice: just get a 4x4 donor, they all have the same hubs and brakes and seals, and you get an LSD

I bought some fronts from Ford, and they gave me rears, twice!
Im planning to get the kit from Darren, as they include the hubs nuts.
I just hope they will fit my ABS front hubs.
I thought all 4x4s were ABS, I stand confused.
The ones I got for my nephew had a left and right hand thread nut in each kit, along with the seals. I think the box was marked Classic bearing co. If
you buy the nuts seperate they are about £3 each.

I need a set of seals for my Sierra/Granada rear hubs and having read this thread I am not sure what I should be asking for.
For a start, I don't know the year or model of car which the hub carriers came from. I'm not even sure if it is Sierra or Granada but it is
fitted with disc brakes.
I have measured the inside diameter of the hub carrier (= outside diameter of seal) and the outside diameter of the hub (= inside diameter of seal)
and wondered if any of your guys took any notes of these sizes so that you could perhaps give me a compatible part number. A long shot I know but
worth asking hopefully. Here are the dims:
Hub carrier inside diameter = 72mm
Hub outside diameter = 56mm
Hub outside diameter of narrower bit = 41mm
I don't think I need bearings as they appear to be in good order but I do need the seals as I destroyed the old ones taking them out (and
subsequently binned them...)

I just got new bearings for my back end which is apparently of a XR4X4 ? the sizes are outside dia 68mm, inside dia 41mm, width 15.5mm the seal outside dia 72mm the bearings are "Direct components" part no. DWB532 & DWB 533

Thanks for that, if I can't get fixed up with seals then I'll get a set of bearings instead. Is there a Direct Components stockist locally

I use Maccess in Broxburn it's a trade only place but i get in on my mates account. Very cheap complete set bearings and seals for rear hub £10 plus vat per side
Hmm, my Sister has an account with Maccess in Glasgow. I wonder when she's planning to get her next order as I think they have a minimum spend of
£60 or so.

No, I know who you mean. Maccess have a place in Kilbirnie Place in Glasgow (Tradeston). My Dad was in business for 40 years and sold automotive stuff
amongst other things in his shop. My sister took over the business when he retired and she now holds the account at Maccess. I've been there many
times as a kid and even a few times since but the minimum spend is a pain hence the reason I was asking if Direct Components have any other outlets. I
guess I could just order the bearings from one of the local motor factors who will no doubt just buy them from Maccess...

Dunno about the minimum spend mind you i always seem to spend £60-70 every time i go in 
For car wheel bearings and seals one of the best places to go is BRT Bearings - they have a few branches around the country. I know they have one in
Livingstone but can't remember if they have any others in Scotland.
The branches will sell individual bearings and seals but in addition BRT are one of the main producers of wheel bearing kits in the UK putting them
together for lots of other companies so they have the knowledge about which parts fit where.
Just checked and they still don't seem to have their own website - great on mechanical bits, but the people running the comapny are not techies!

In case anyone else needs wheel bearing seals for the rear on a disc braked sierra hub, the Ford part number is 6140417 and you will need 4 of these
for the complete rear end. They cost me £3.01 + vat each which is a total of £14.15 inc vat for the set.
