You must be a good welder if you can weld steel to a alloy tank
or am i missing something

no got a mild steel tank thats been powdercoated thats a good point whats the best way of getting some of the powder coating off

OK sorry i would think a mini grinder will remove the coating

You have not had fuel in it have you ?
if so don't weld it

Your welding is going to have to be fuel tight right the way around the plate isnt it??

As above, a mini grinder or drill mounted rotary wire brush should soon have the powder coat off

Used paint stripper to remove powder coating from my wishbones, worked well
