Just aquired a diff/disc assemby off a 4x4 Sierra and was shocked at the weight of the
driveshafts. Is it possible to make the shafts form the non slipper diff and drums fit ?

Serious weight loss needed.

The output shafts for the LSD unit are different so you need to keep them. Could save some weight by making hybrid shafts with the push in outer ends (and retaining the bolt on inners) but think this requires the bearing carriers also for the push in rear end. Not sure how much weight it will save but have to ask is it worth it?? The LSD unit is heavier than an open diff also i believe.

I thnink that the driveshafts and the drums (minus the diff) only weigh about 4 kilos less than the bolted equivalant. The NON LSD diff weighing about 6 kilos less.

if you look for my post about de-dion not worth it (i updated it in the last few days). I weigh all the components on a drum setup. I got the weight of the shafts wrong first time (hence hte update a few days ago).
