Nice new alloy uprights
rumplitter - 13/6/08 at 09:02 AM

As i stated in my earlier topic I've finally got round to putting my new alloy uprights on.
They look great but i need to look at how i can create more clearance, i need to reduce the cheese head allen key bolts, maybe i could have some machined off? Rescued attachment 25_5_08 075.jpg

Please see attached sketch.
Do you think 2-3mm is enough tolerance?

2-3mm may be OK as the wheels won't flex inwards towards the boltheads.

However, 2-3mm is very tight and my gut feeling would be to get as much clearance as you can. Can the shock/track arm be 'thinned' so the bolts don't hang out so far? Are they shimmed at all, if so can you reduce the shimming?

I hate to say it but I think the answer is to modify the upright so it's narrower where the shock/arm connects and do the same at the other end. Or buy bigger wheels?

Is that damper on the wrong way round? Can you get to the adjuster with the wheel on?

On the bush side, can it be replaced with another rose joint?

On the rose joint side can you use a dome head, I think they are still 10.9 rated but you should check.

i like the idea of rose-jointing the other side!
Not thought of that!

You can also buy ones called "low heads"...look like a normal allen screw but the head is...well.....lower...

Looking at it again you seem to have a large spacer between the rod end bearing and the hub. Can you reduce that spacer at all as you don't need any side to side movement really.
