Just a quick one (ooer missus!)


What grease should one use in one's steering rack?

Medium Density Oil - not Grease as described in the Haynes Manual. Too thick and you cant set the load correctly Chris.

IIRC - a 5Nm load is required on the drive spline (Steering Column connection) to move the rack.

Not really critical -- an gear oil or a cheap 20w/40 engine oil --- don't put too much in.

Trick with setting the damper load is check pinion still turns freely at both full locks -- not just in the teeth around straight ahead position which gets more wear..
