My rear Diff ( 7inch 3.62LSD) is getting very hot even after a short run. Almost too hot to touch.
Is this normal or should I replace it with my spare 7.5 inch open diff, before the long run to Stafford.

How efficient is a diff? 97%?
How much power do you put through the diff on average? 50 BHP?
so about 2000W is lost in the diff as heat and sound. About the same as an electric fire or domestic iron. I don't know how hot it should get
but I would expect it to be quite warm.
Yup. Mine gets pretty toasty warm...... I did wonder about blowing air over into the cabin as a heater
It could also be you are getting a lot of hot air from the engine bay travelling down the tunnel and hitting the diff
As above I found a lot of heat came from the engine bay down the tunnel which didn't help. Large side vents on the engine bay helped with both the tunnel sides and diff temp. Still gets very warm though and yes almost too hot to touch after a hard drive.
Dont worry about the diff it is normal for them to get very hot.
So absolutly nothing to worry about happy days.....
Vorst sprung purdys technick,
i wonderd that at a mk track day few months ago and they said it was normal to be that hot . supose you dont often lay under a sierra and touch your
diff after a long run do you ????
you can get diff coolers little pump and radiator and a oil stat in demon tweeks for rallycars if ya really bothered ??
