Luego wishbones
200mph - 2/1/04 at 04:53 PM

Having purchased my wishbones from Luego, I was a little disappointed to find that the balljoints didnt really fit them. The big hole isnt big enough, and the two holes (one at each side) are not really in the righ place, and will require opening up a bit.

Am I wrong in thinking that wishbones should just fit when they are bought, or is this a little overambitious?

Just didnt want any hassle when it came to suspension components, so bought them instead of making them, hoping to save some effort/time/difficulty, but this hasn't happened.

Anyone else feel the same way or differently??

Many thanks,
Mark

Luego probably made them to fit genuine Balljoints, patern ones tend to be a bit 'variable' in their casting tollerances. looks like you have to get yer file out!

Hi,

I also purchased my wishbones from Luego, I also bought the ball joints from them as well.

Mine fitted almost perfectly, I had the wishbones powder coated (not Luego) and needed the tiniest bit of filing to the big hole to remove the powder coating.

The two small bolt holes lined up perfectly, everything is a good tight fit.

I have to say I'm very satisfied with the Luego wishbones, they are well designed, well made and are geometrically and dimensionally perfect.

I am also using Luego wishbones that are powder coated fitted with Maxi ball joints that I bought from my local motorfactors and apart from a little powder coat removal from the holes everything lines up and fits OK. The ball joints I have are Maxi, Veco p/n VB036.

I agree with JohnN comments about the design and quality of the Luego parts.

Happy new year everyone. I've used luego wishbones with pattern ball joints and apart from having to clean out excess powder coating , have had no problems at all with any of luego supplied parts

Thanks for the replys. The quality of them is excellent, was very impressed with both the wishbones and the other parts I bought from them, as well as the service. The reason I posted was to see if I did have a problem, because I havent bought these kind of things before, so really had no idea what to expect.

So it looks like theres a bit of variation in the ball joint castings? That more or less answers my question, but to be sure could someone maybe pose the diameter of the large hole on their luego wishbone, and the distance between the two small holes?

This would be much appreciated, and thanks again for the help

Mark

maybe sell the ball joints on ebay, and get new ones direct from luego?

should solve the problem, if it doesnt luego will undoubtedly sort it out for you.

I just thought that one ball joint would have to be very similar to another, regardless of manufacturer, otherwise it wouldnt fit the cortina?

Think I will just get luego ones, at least then I have peace of mind.

cheers

Fords own manufacturing tollerances are "open limits" sometimes, when jigging a sierra, you have a 4mm degree of accuracy. As a baby metalman, years ago, I was taking ages to straighten a front ended 2WD Cozzy, the boss gave me a bollocking for trying to pull the thing exactly straight, he then made me measure the rear end as an accuracy comparason - the results were frighteningly out.

yeah, tolreances are fine, but surely the constant in the balljoint is where the bolts go? The bolt holes should line up in all balljoints, otherwise when it came to using them they simply wouldnt fit.

The distance between the centres of the two holes on my balljoint is 77mm, where the distance between the two holes on the wishbone is 68mm.

I dont really suspect there's 9mm of tolerance between manufacturers of ball joints regarding where they place their bolts?

I would also be quite worried about weakening the wishbone by removing that much metal from each hole, then a similar amount from the large centre hole.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mark

9904169, just to be clear, didnt see it anywhere in the thread but which ball joints are you using?

luego bones use the maxi balljoint not the cortina ones as per book.

wishbones from luego, maxi ball joints from doz - perfect fit (bar a bit of powder coat removal)
