Hi all,

Been sat in the garage all afternoon staring at the grease nipple's I managed to grab from work trying to find a way to use them, my question is has anyone tried to make a normal bolt into a greaser bolt, enabling you to grease the bushes without removing them?

I was wondering how often you need to regrease the bolts int the bushes (if indead you have to) when the car is on the road?

The idea I had with the nipple's is to drill a small hole (1.6mm) halfway down the middle of the bolt, lathe a small groove around the bolt at the halfway point then drill a couple of hole's in the groove. This should allow the grease to work into the middle of the steel insert.

My only fear is making the bolt weaker.

Any thoughts?

you grease between the steel tube and the plastic bush the tube shouldnot move on thepinch bolt

grooving the bolts is IMHO very dangerous on a suspension part and like Jacko says the bush isn't designed to move around the bolt, it's designed to move elsewhere. Not only that but a drill is nominally designed to drill upto 7 times it's diameter in depth ie 3mm dia = 21mm deep. So with a 1.6mm drill you ain't going to get very far! Also, most bolts on a Kit/Commercial car are high tensile - therefore more difficult to drill anyway!

IMHO - use moly/copperslip, silicon that way in becomes embedded into the material and provides an almost natural lubrication...
