Centre-Lock Wheels

What are the pro's?

Worth the hassle of converting a 'normal' hub?

PS - Also have a thread about push-rod suspension on the go too if you want to contribute

i cant imagine there are many benefits other than the look

that is unless you want to go do some F1 style pit stops

scootz - 8/9/08 at 08:00 PM

Nah - I have a set of centre-lock mag rims kicking about. So light that I thought I might try to use them (if engineering a new hub wasn't too costly / difficult).

blakep82 - 8/9/08 at 08:26 PM

i'd imagine making new hubs would be a bit of a nightmare... and sourcing a wheel nut to suit. i think radical may use something thatcould help, but not cheap. i seem to remember 1 wheel nut being about £45.

scootz - 8/9/08 at 08:34 PM

Eeek... I draw the line at £45 nuts!

blakep82 - 8/9/08 at 08:41 PM

ah, there you go http://secure2.cyberware.co.uk/~rad-shop/acatalog/sr8wheelstyres.html

£36 each... plus vat no doubt.

sure you could probably find them somewhere cheaper, its the only place i could think of that you might get them though

Pick up a new engine while you are there

this is going to be some car when you've finished it

I guess Sid could make you a set of hubs if you know exactly what you need

scootz - 9/9/08 at 10:39 AM

Cheers mcerd1.

I'm focusing on things that makes the car go, stop and turn better, rather than a lot of the fancy (read expensive and IMHO unnecessary) gizmo's that a lot of Ultima owners fit to their cars.

I guess I'm building the worlds only locost Ultima by choosing my parts carefully and recycling components where possible!

When you say Sid.... do you mean Sid Winters?

mcerd1 - 9/9/08 at 11:29 AM

yes, Sid's your man for 1 off machining round here

this latest bit he's done for mine,
it just needs polished up and anodised now

but then again are there any centrelock hubs that would fit off the shelf ? (or with minor mods)

Oooooh... very nice!

Who are you using for anodising?

PS - were you able to make any use of the Lotus seats?

mcerd1 - 9/9/08 at 05:08 PM

anodising - I've been putting together batches with another Dax owner and he's been taking them to a place near him (down manchester way)

I can get you the details if you like, but if you've just got a couple of bits you could throw them in with mine
the next batch will be hard anodised (black only, and it might not be very shiny, but it will be hard)

I've not done anything with the seats yet, I'm still miles off that bit (btw - you don't have the old covers do you ?)

I think I may have, but they've gone mouldy as they were in a shed with a leak in it!

I'd still take them if you've got them, I'm only wanting to make a pattern from them
