Height of brake fluid reservoir

Does the height that the brake fluid reservoir is fitted matter? Does it have to be the highest part of the braking system?

Thanks

Every car I have ever worked on had the resevoir at the highest point, even the X19 has a remote resevoir hidden in the scuttle. I am not sure if the master cylinder has to be higher than the brakes, but I doubt it - it would be just a pig to bleed

Guys

The brake fluid reservoir should always be mounted higher than any other component of the braking system, to ensure correct fluid recuperation. You don't want to give air the chance to ingress your carefully bled system.

If by some fluke you have ABS, the reservoir must be at least 5 cms above the ABS module, to ensure sufficient fluid supply. Remember, under ABS modulation there's a lot of brake fluid being pumped around.
