What Axle?

After looking back through my previous threads from when I started this project (2005) I am now thoroughly confused as to what axle I have!!

I have the axle, a 3.77 diff to fit (it bolts on to the axle rather than having a cover plate only...if that helps?) and the half shafts. I need bearings and retaining plates for the shafts.

Can anyone PLEASE!! help me decide what axle I actually have?

Originally I was told it was a P100 but now I'm not so sure.

If I'm not mistaken, you have an English axle out of a mk2 escort.

Its not an atlas one, because that bolts in from the rear, and its not out of a capri becuase the mounts are in the wrong place.

I'm guessing that this is probably an Escort axle then?

Can I assume that the bearings should be relatively easy to get (easier than fitting I guess!)

Hi.

Not only is it an escort English axle but if you do have a rare 3.7 ratio. Remember to ask for the correct amount of cash if you decide to sell the diff unit.
Thats assuming it is in good condition and you want to change to a different ratio.

it's mk2 escort english axle, but upside down atm, breather is at the bottom

As this is the second of 2 axles that I had and is a the longer one by a couple of inches, can I assume it may be off a van perhaps?

I went with this one because I am going the +442 route.

Aha!

Capri MK1 English axle. 2" wider than escort, very rare, and worth more (over £100 used) Gives more clearance between wheel and chassis.

Recently sold one needing repair for £85!

Thanks to this thread I am completely certain that my axle is an English one, but how do the Capri mounting points differ from the Escort Mk2 ones? I almost certain I have the latter.

Also, without opening the axle is there any easy way to tell what ratio it is?

Can't answer the mounting point question, bu you can get a reasonable idea of the ratio by taping a pointer (e.g. a bit of card) on the diff flange and another on one of the hubs, then count the number of turns of each in relation to each other. Do say 10 turns of the flange
