Pedal positioning
DaveFJ - 5/1/04 at 11:52 AM

After much debate i have decided to try to adapt the sierra pedal box, more or less as per the Avon book...

However I have used 25mmx25mm box section to replace the pedal levers to remove the dog-leg

my question is this - in your opinions what are the 'optimum' AND MINIMUM dimensions for the attached drawing....?

the distances a, b, c and d are gonna depend on how big your feet are!! Generally I dont think you've got enough room in the footwell to do much apart from space them quite evenly, allowing room for the width of your shoe.

One thing to bear in mind that may or may not affect your pedals (esp the brake) is the position of the steering column.

For e, I'd look at your everyday car and see whats comfortable, bearing in mind that the shorter the distance from the pivot the more effort is required to push the pedal - I seem to remember people talking about a 4:1 ratio for the brake pedal (distance of pivot to pedal:distance of pivot to master cylinder rod)

Slightly modified Sierra pedals in situ, they feel really comfortable. The accelerator pedal (not shown) is equally spaced but 1 1/4 lower to make heel and toe nice and slick Rescued attachment PedalsCloserInSitu.jpg
