Does anybody have some (links to) pictures of panhard rod mounting to a live axle?

In my setup it seems to have trouble clearing the handbrake cable. See picture. Please note I will get a shorter bolt to put in the threaded bush, and I will weld fillets to support the bush.

Another question: anybody knows how to remove the brake drum of the escort Mk1? I guess this will also reveal how the studs can be replaced for longer studs?

I hope that is only a temporary bolt on the axle mounting.

Like already mentioned, the bush has not been welded yet. FYI: I will weld M12 threaded bar into the threaded bush, and mount the rose joint with a Nyloc nut.

Yes, the rear suspension arms are mounted temporary. I will remove the axle so I have better access for welding the panhard rod mounting and the handbrake-things-mounting-brackets.

Anyone some pics? I can't find them in earlier topics.

This is mine when I trial fitted it. In the end, I made up a bracket for the h/b end, which was welded to the topside of the axle tube. It passes over the panard rod so no clearance issues. I found it impossible to get a good pull angle any other way...

Have you strengtened the threaded bush later on? My idea is to weld two triangular plates to eiter side of the bush.

Like already mentioned, I would like to use a Nyloc nut, instead of a bolt, which might come loose. Is your car already approved by mr. SVA? Any comments on this construction?

Not SVAd yet... but personally I don't think it would need strengthening anyway.

Bolt is ok as long as you use Threadlock.

Just remember to consdier how the axle sits when you go over a humpback bridge etc. Let the axle droop to see where your handbrake bracket needs to be - it was a close call with the chassis rail.

I also see an extra strenthening plate on the outside of the chassis, where the wheel arch will be mounted. It has an hole for access to the upper damper bolt.

Looks cool. Any particular reason, or just to strengthen/stiffen it more?

It's a Stuart Taylor chassis, and that's how they do it! There is a lot of love for the S/T designed chassis...!
