IRS Wishbones
Simon - 18/7/02 at 09:22 PM

Hi Guys,

Finally decided to make w/bones for rear of my car. Going to bolt diff to chassis.

Has anyone got suggestions for tube sizes. For cheapness, I'd thought about using the bushes (new ones) that Ford used in the trailing arms, so obviously I'd use same size for the bushed tube. What about the rest.

Thanks

Simon

I'm in a similar position, and have also been thinking about the sizes of the wishbones for the rear.

It could be useful if perhaps someone like Bob could post some dimensions of the MK wishbones bought in with the chassis.

The lengths of the wishbones and the distance between the faces of the bush tubes would be most useful for me to manufacture a suitable approximation.

Hope someone can help us!

TIA.

John.

John,

Looks to me like nobody knows, or is willing to make a suggestion. Can't say I blame them:-)

Whaddya reckon to this:

The Sierra trailing arms have pivot bushes (naturally). The bushes are set in tubular steel of dimensions: O/d 46mm / I/d 36 / Wall 5mm. If these ok on Sierra, must be ok for Locost (I reckon). As for rest of tube, (book (from memory)) front w/bones are 3/4" 16swg round tube. I'm going to try 1 inch tube of 16 swg (maybe 14swg).

This is of course all dependant on me being able to source these sizes of tubing.

Comments from other members appreciated.

Regards

Simon
