caliper mounting plate thickness?
blakep82 - 26/10/08 at 02:14 PM

what thickness plate should i be looking at to make caliper mountings from?

is 6mm too small? should i be looking more 8-10mm?

6mm should be fine

Core diameter of one of the bolts would give at least equal strength to the mounting bolts (which is over kill).
Also twisting moment to consider so at least 8mm -- perhaps 10mm

hmm, how do you mean?do you mean core diameter of 1 bolt will be at least equal to the plate?

think i might go 10mm then. better to over engineer things rather than stick with the minimum. 10mm makes things harder to work with though will take hours with the hacksaw lol

And too much blades!

what if i was to use 6mm and fillet it too? or 8mm?

i'm thinking 10mm might not give a great weld penetration on my welder. i'm thinking 6mm should be fine, and the fillet will give the stiffness it needs?

what diameter is the english axle tube? is it 70mm? his brackets look like they might be a perfect fit without mods...
