Hi, I know fia harness should pass Iva but do they need to be in date.
Thanks
No, they don't take the date into account.
I always thought that harnesses needed to be EC type approved to suit IVA? If they are FIA and EC then that was OK but not just FIA.
Have I misunderstood that?
Great. Kit car magazine had a feature on belts and Iva stating they would fail if out if date, thought this was odd as it is not mentioned I the manual. Cheers
I had a look at the manual when I bought my out of date Willans harnesses. The way I read it was that the examiner had to be satisfied that they were
fit for purpose and the easiest way to do this was to use nice new ones that had the latest approved marks. However I reckon a set of race harnesses
will certainly be up to the job of being fit for purpose as long as they are in good condition.
I could be talking tosh of course!

AFAIK they also need to be able to be un-done with one hand,ie the red push button type release and not the aero type.

Steve beat me too it!!
Not true. Rotating aircraft buckles are perfectly acceptable.
As long as the harness is Fia approved it's fine. Dating is only for racing. I did see an article somewhere possibly on the prima Motorsport site (who make the titon harnesses) explaining the regs with respect to IVA.
Another myth is clip in harnesses won't pass, again not true. As long as you protect any edges and put a split pin through the catch they will be perfectly fine for IVA.

GRRRR.
Bought some cheap FIA second hand harnesses with aircraft buckles (learnt they were better for getting out of rally car in a hurry when sick) but
heard they were not passable so I sold them on for the same price.
I have got my hands on a set of buckle type now (TRS) that have an E mark on them but upon checking the IVA manual it says.
"Note 1: A British Standard BS3254 Part 1 1988 or evidence of FIA 8853-98 approval for a harness belt is acceptable"
Will my E marked harnesses pass, I know my old ones would have.
Getting lost with this issue!!
aircraft buckles and FIA? are yo sure?
FIA and E-marked: no way!!
IVA = E-marked..i guess so..
