i am now looking for a pipercross airfilter px500 or px600 with or without the base plate or a base plate on its own.

You can buy blank backplates to cut out to the spacing you require e.g. Air Filter Base Plate Baseplate suits Piper X Pipercross PX600 or ITG JC50 | eBay but you could cut one out of a sheet of alloy if you have some time and patience.

Note that the PX500 and PX600 are different lengths, so you have to match the baseplate to the appropriate filter. Have you actually checked the length of the PX500 is ok for your install? If you have bike carbs with the original spacing it will be, but if the carbs have been spaced out to match the inlet ports it it may not so please check!
