Ok.. So... Beer and car classifieds strike again... Had been eyeing up TVRs for a while...when this one popped up just down the road I snapped.... My wallet hates me so much right now...

4.0L Rover V8 with Borg Warner T5 gearbox and LSD Scary quick.

According to the guy I bought it from it has a Mallory ignition with new distributor and coil plus a torqflow conversion (new inlet, MAF and ECU chip apparently..) No idea if this is good or not!?

Service book is stamped up to date but I don't know what has and hasn't been done so plan to go over the car.. Anything specific on this engine I should look out for that should be changed (cam chain? Water pump?!)

Good man! So want one of these at some time in my life! Chassis rusting scares me though. I'd ditch the wheels and get something a bit more in keeping with the car

Camshafts on the Rover V8 have a pretty short lifespan. Plenty of TVRs need this replaced by about 70k.

I dropped on one last year and it's been great fun, not a bit of trouble so far, bit more civilised than the ST and nicer when it rains
well supported forum on Pistonheads if you have any questions.

Chassis rot tends to be confined to outriggers, and really a body off job if needed, so it scares most normal folk shitless
Should be a walk in the park for us Locostbuilder types.

Has it been de-catted ? they sound sooo much nicer when the cats are binned.

I've had mine for 7 years now. Great fun to drive. As said its normally the outriggers that go. I've had mine replaced. This can be done with the body on. Or a 2 inch lift if required, mine was done with the body insitu. I have replaced bits and pieces none have been expensive, its all simple, but access is bloody awful. Exhaust manifold gasket replacement is a challenge to say the least.
The modern E-Type in my opinion.

How do you guys find the headlights? Tempted to do the lupo conversion so I can get a bit more light for night time driving... Nothing worse than not being able to see far enough into the distance!!

Any suggestions as to what oil and plugs to go for? There seems to be a lot of contradicting info out there!?

I just replaced both reflectors and put the glasses in the dishwasher, much brighter!

Interesting you say that. I actually prefer the lupo conversion...makes the car look a lot more modern...perhaps it ruins the character a bit I guess.

Might strip out the existing headlights and give them a bloody good clean.

I'm starting to like those wheels now!

And I bet the number of views of TVRs on Pistonheads and eBay has shot up since you posted tegwin!

I just think its modifying the original look too much, personal preference though. However, if I were to modify the lights, I do like the flared in modification, as per the later chims.

I re-coned all the leather in the car and re veneered the dash. The leather is easy to do and looks the dogs doo dahs.- Furniture clinic.

BTW don't tell the TVR boys its a glorified Kit Car they hate that

alot have had engine rebuilds, i presume the speed six is a normal ish engine so i could do that myself?

Reckon you would need deep pockets to rebuild a Speed 6, even if you did the donkey work yourself. Better to find one that has already been rebuilt, preferably with a warranty from TVR Power or similar.

That's part of the appeal of the Chim, nice simple V8

Man those are nice cars. But the work our Edd does to repair everything always looks a wee bit difficult even for us. Maybe we just need better workshops.

That's spooky, I've been thinking about one of those myself as well. Is it the next MX5 for people on here? ;-)
