Silvertop operating temp
FrankP - 6/4/10 at 08:35 PM

Hi,
I have seen the operating temp of the silver top of about 100 degrees? Is this correct? Is it a problem running cool?

My fan is starting at around 85 - I am using the temp sensor in the polo rad.

Should I try and find a thermstat that has a higher range - can you get one to fit in the same hole in the rad?

Thanks

Frank

Mk 2 golf and polo thermostatic switches are all interchangeable, I think that 95 is probably a better figure - I may be wrong. Perhaps the mk2 golf gti?

Ford 'stat opens at 93 deg. my fan cuts in at 100 deg and off at 95.

zetecs dont like to be too cool

Running between 95 and 105 is fine for a Zetec. They like to run quite hot.

You can buy a fully adjustable electronic sensor that fits the Polo Rad (M22) from Rally design. It's not that cheap at around £40 but you can set it to whatever you want then.

Thermostat determines the running temp not the fan switch.
On a Zetec fan normally cuts in at 100c ---- this is about 22 degrees below boiling point under radiator pressure.

If your fan switch is a 22mm dia thread you have loads to choose from (search previous threads for QH part numbers) I would suggest choosing one that switches on at 95 or 97c
