Engine for a Striker
pekwah1 - 10/8/10 at 10:57 PM

Hi Guys,

will be picking up a striker this week hopefully.
It's currectly fitted with a 1300 xflow to a type 9.

Although i'm sure this will still power the little beast at a reasonable speed, i think i'd prefer to have an engine that will produce around 150hp if i'm going to have to build it up etc and spend the time on it.

So..... the usual question, which engine?

Options:

1300 xflow (currently fitted)
mazda mx5
zetec
bigger xflow/pinto
rover k series
4age

Points to consider will be power produced, reliability, weight, and that it'll need to go through an iva but i don't know how that would matter.

Slightly swaying towards the k series as they're pretty cheap, and i love how the engine revs and responds in my mate's elise. I assume there shouldnt be too many issue with fitting by getting a different bellhousing for the type9?

Anyway, opinions please!

Regards.
Andy

for me there's only 1 true engine for the striker and it's the 4age

I know i love mine. Rev happy and 150bhp in a 500kg car =

4age is a well tried route in the Striker so there's lots of experience out there.K series is a good option if done well.

Of course the obvious answer is B... OK I won't go there

Have a look at the JPSC forum or the Sylva list. Not as active as here but lots of Strikers on there.

4AGE 20V has been the choice for quite a while but a blacktop Zetec would be cheaper to install and will get better returns from future modifications.

If you want all the bits off the shelf then 4age from Raw is proven, but expensive once you add all the bits up.

yeh thought you'd all say the toyota lump....
budget is a bit of an issue though so 2k from raw is probably not an option...

any idea of what kind of power a 1300 xflow gives? the other option is to keep the xflow and build it up with that for now and do the engine when i'm not longer poor...

Sylva used to recommend the 1.6 CVH which is good for 150bhp but probably a bit old in the tooth these days, it is likely the cheapest and easiest option if not giving RAW a pile of cash.

Check the height of the Duratec as it's a tall engine and might not fit without a silly bulge.

that link doesn't work....
i think i'd be looking for an engine that's going to give close to the 150hp in standard form, well, apart from the obvious air filter and exhaust and maybe carbs....

So who's clever enough to give pro's and con's of using the 4age vs k series?
