wobbly Knob

no not that type, the doctor gave me pills for that and it got better!

My type 9 gear Knob is wobbly, it is running a Tiger extension and has the plastic bush in place as it should be. It is only the self centring that is not working correctly, I have temporarily used a bungee to pull the leaver to the drivers side it now works perfectly. so the question is which bit in the gearbox self centres the lever (is it the selector rod spring?) and can I replace it without an engine and box out?

Thanks

Ed

Is the reverse detent still working?

Yep its only the self centering thats a problem. I believe there is a spring that can be replaced but its a tail off job. If that is correct i wonder if i can detach the prop and take the tail off the gearbox and leave the rest in the car??? hope so as a gearbox out means engine out too!!!

I fitted a tail casing without realising there were different types! It's resulted in me having a floppy knob with no detent on reverse. There's a long pin (like a knitting needle) that catches a spring inside the box. Mine doesn't catch anything....

You don't want your wobbly knob catching anything!
