ford diffs - anyone broken one?
I know most people use the seven inch ford diff from the normal sierra or the 4x4 models. Has anyone broken one of these and in what circumstances?
Does anyone run the larger 7.5 inch granada/ 2wd cosworth diff? Has anyone broken one of these?
Finally does anyone know the comparative weights? or even just a weight for the 7.5 inch unit?

7" lsd weighs about 21kgs by my reckoning, against 14kgs for an open freelander diff.

what are the limited slip options for the freelander diff? id forgotten that option

you wont manage to break a sierra diff in normal use, it would be if it ran out of oil or got the wrong sort put in, or crash damage. With kits being
so light you just cant apply enough torque to break the diff. When it was in the donor car, most torque is felt when pulling a trailer in 1st gear, ie
full power and not much acceleration. The only time a kit sees full power and no acceleration is in top gear, when you dont have the torque multiplied
up as much.

I know its under less loading in the kit than the donor in the circumstances you describe.
I dont know if it would survive for argument 350bhp and a set of slicks on a warm day.
I know the cossie boys get into trouble with them eventually, just curious if one could reach their limit in a locost.

4WD Cossie boys will hit problems as they can't wheelspin the excess away...
Don't forget its not bhp which kills them, but torque - and if you're using something with a taller 1st gear, you won't send as much
through the diff anyway.
