Open diff with Quaiffe LSD or Ford LSD?

Afternoon all,
I need your help on deciding what to do. Got a MK chassis which will have a R1 engine in it.

I've got the following:

1 x 3.62 ratio open diff (but no shafts, carriers yet - bought the wrong ones)

1 x 3.62 LSD with bolt on shafts, carriers etc.

Can people advise whether it would be better for me to go with the group buy deal with Hobbsy and getting a Quaiffe fitted to the open diff and finding the correct shafts etc or should I stick with the LSD I have? Is there any difference in performance or causing problems?

Also, is it possible to turn the open diff with push-in's to bolt on's or should I stick with finding push in's?

Eventually I want to source a 3.38 ratio and fit that but until then, what do i do? (if i was to get the Quaiffe, could i have it refitted to the 3.38?)

I am planning to use discs all round btw (and MK already done the mods for chassis etc to accomodate this - could I still fit discs on to push-in shafts?)

Cheers,

mads

You can fit a Quaife ATB unit into any of the diffs you've mentioned.

However its cheaper to go the push-in drive shaft route otherwise you have to buy the more expensive unit that comes with the bolt on flanges (over £200 more IIRC)

If you're considering the Quaife and you ultimately want a 3.38 and you're paying to get the unit fitted you might as well try and source a 3.38 now and get it right first time.

I guess they go for anywhere from £150 to £250 but you're going to be paying the thick end of £100 to get it fitted to a 3.62 plus the hassle of getting the diff in and out the car.

Out of interest I've got a R1 5PW in my Fury and its currently a 3.38 with push in driveshafts and discs.

I'm going for the ATB (as you've probably guessed!) and I'm wrapping up the group buy on the Sierra diffs in about 10 days time (at the 3 unit MOQ and ~12% discount).

Obviously I'm a bit biased but you might find the 3.62 a bit short geared on longer tracks and higher cruising revs on motorways / A-roads.

Hobbsy, I have been trying to find a 3.38 but they are so rare that I'm struggling to find one (an in time for your group buy to end) so figure i may as well stick what i've got (unless you see one and can let me know )
