Help changing the REAR wheel bearings on XR4x4
Hi can anybody help me with changing rear the wheel bearings on XR4x4 (with disc brakes). Pictures would be great as my workshop manual is not for a
2.9 xr4x4.
Thanks

You drift out the bearings from either side, so tap the left hand bearing out from the right hand side, I used a brass drift for this.
What you cannot see is the machined lip inside the housing so its tempting to just try and push everything out from one side, this does not work.
If the bearing is really tight as you bash away it will all fall apart. In this instance do not worry, a little bead of weld on the bearing running
surface will cause the ring to shrink and it will drop out.

here's a few pics:
hub carrier with whats left of the old bearings still in them... (half of one fell off !)
and the carrier after I knocked out the outer bearing races (as mark said ^^^) and cleaned them up a bit
you can see the ridge in the midle that seperates the 2 bearings:
