Front hub main bolt torque..??
whats the torque figure for the front hub bolt,the main one..my manual says about 220 lbs/ft..seems high

with a torque that high, you must be talking about sierra hubs, my data book says 229-258ftlbs. Cortina ones will be substantially less, as they are
taper bearings(spin as you tightenslack off until you feel the slightest play, tighten one flat and lock
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Haynes quotes 229 to 258 Ft-lbs.
To strip mine for a blast clean and rebuild, had to get a 3/4" drive socket and bar to get on the nuts, nearly broke my workmate holding them
whilst I undid them with an extension bar, they were effin tight.

oops forgot to mention they were sierra..!!, thanks..will have to scrounge a bigger torque wrench then.

With the type of bearings in the sierra, I think that the torque set if wind it down until it bottoms out (helps if you spin the bearings whilst you
tighten), then give it your best grunt!

No way hose A.
There's something wrong with that figure because when we renewed the nephew's bearing and tried to get it that tight we couldn't
turn the front wheel. We ended up backing it off till the wheel turned and it's been alright since then. The back ones are a different story,
they were tight.
