Coilovers on Tintop?
Does anybody have much experience with running Coilovers on a Tintop?
Basically the Tintop would appear to have camber problems as it has a heavier than usual engine in and its lowered by 40mm, and its worn the inside of
the tyres and the outsides are like new.
Like a wally i've bought some Eccentric Top Mounts without realising they can't be used with normal sized MacPherson struts and require
full coilovers

What are coilovers like to live with day to day?, am I going to loose what little comfort thats left as those topmounts look very unforgiving compared
to whats there at the moment, and all the rest of the suspension is poly bushed.
Is it worth Sacrificing the comfort for any potential better handeling with the coilovers, I can't complaing about how it handles at the moment
to be honest.
Or should I go for what looks like a bit of a bodge way to keep the car as comfortable as it is.

Lots of cars have coilovers as standard, just not adjustable unless you get a porche.
MacPherson struts are coilovers with funny ends.
Anyway, can you not return those expensive lumps and file the strut mounting out to move it across a bit, that's the old way of doing things on
a budget. 40mm lowering should not equate to needing to move the top a lot.

Its not that i'm particulary on a budget.. but coilovers are pretty expencive and i'm not sure on the ride quality they give.
I have seen the turrets re-drilled but the rest of the car is pretty prestine to be doing that and making it look a bit of a bodge.

what type of tin top is it?, other ways is adjustable bottom arms as well as the bolts mentioned and the slotting of the holes and welding a washer
on. depending on quality of coilovers you are after wide choice of spring rates, damping adjustment and ride height adjustments should make ride
quality ok. however a basic coilover kit will generally be hard ride

... ok I'll admit it in a Public forum.. Tis a Vauxhall Nova with a Redtop Engine in.
I did expect them to be a bit harder, I might go for the offset bolts and a strut brace then.. unless I can be persuasded or advised otherwise lol

I wouldn't personally go for offset bolts, they are crappy things IME. You can simply slot one pair of the holes on the bottom of the strut and
then weld washers over the slotted section (once you have determined the correct camber). Easy peasy, well proven and no risk of offset bolts
loosening, or snapping when you tighten them.
Note that this method will change the scrub radius slightly (as will offset bolts), but it's likely already wrong if you are running larger
rims.

as per mike RJ, we used to rally a nova as per yours, and did exactly as he says.
(though in the end we wide tracked it, arched it, and put the engine in the boot, but thats another story)

Having driven a few and owned a corsa, damn good cars!
Coilovers shouldnt be harsh unless you buy cheap or select the wrong springs.
