English Diff

I have a English live axle with a 3.89-1 (I think ) diff in it on the back of the Phoenix. After the last track day it has developed a wine under load.

Question is ....is it worth repair or is it cheaper to buy a replacement unit or is a Quaife ATB a better long term solution.

I would be interested in what people think the cost of repairing the diff would be and if anyone knows of someone who could do it. Also interested in the cost to setup and fit a Quaife ATB in the existing casing.

Cheers

Hi

Cost wise you would be looking at around £120 for the rebuild with a solid spacer instead of the crush tube and fitting the ATB unit if fitting one. plus the front seal and any bearings that maybe needed. Obviously you need to supply the ATB unit if going down that route.

That should give a good reliable diff unit capable of running up to 250Hp and 180 Lb Ft torque.

"Get a Sierra diff and go de-dion!!" why add all that extra weight for no real benefit.

Cheers Matt

Im going to recheck the oil (topped up for mallory trackday) but who knows.

Its coming off anyway to rebush the trailing arms and panhard so i'll give more thought in a week or so and may consider tackling it myself as i will have access to a hydrulic press as soon as im back at uni.
