Hello Ewan, and nice site Chris - I hope it takes off.

I got my lovely brand new MT75 4x4 Cosy gearbox from Simon Rook's work buddy yesterday - very nice indeed, and the bathroom scales say just 52kg which is less than I was expecting. Not bad considering a standard RWD type-9 weighs 39kg, is much weaker, and has no centre diff and transfer case. Have you weighed the type-9 4x4 box, Ewan?

All I need to do now is get my engine and see about fitting them together. Trying to get a clutch working will be fun.

Anyway, everyone should make 4x4 Locosts, cos 4WD is the king.

Just a few things I've dug up....

Sierra 4x4 uses larger diameter front shocks, so the usual adaptors from lolocost etc won't fit, BUT wheelbearing is the same as Cosworth RWD which does use the samller shock (and has 4 pot front brakes), may also be possible to use Escort FWD front upright. Also the driven (and Cosworth rwd) front hubs don't use usual taper ball joints but a pinch bolt arrangement, this ball joint with bolable mounting plate is available on Fiesta3, and Escort Mk5 (fiesta mounting plate looks better!) so could make it possible to use book front lower arms.

Just carrying on from Liam question about the weights of gearboxes, I was wondering if there is a list compiled somewhere on the web by an enthusiast detailing weights of gearboxes, engines and other components, I tried looking myself but came up with squat on such a list, but such a list would be extremely useful to anyone attemping to build any kitcar and not just one for a locost, if anyone does find such a list please let us know.

Dunc,

Although very sparse, incomplete, and largely irrelevant I'm keeping track of weights on my site, for my project.
