diff - chassis clearance
Hey all,
I mounted up my rear axle and diff this week and yesterday supported it with wood so the trailing arms were horizontal to measure up for the panhard
rod. However I now only have about 5mm clearance between the bottom of the diff casing and the chassis B1 rail.
To me that sounds to close! Any kind of lift at the back and that will hit the rail.
What kind of clearance should I have? Its an english axle in an mcsorley book chassis.

Thats about what I have (Capri Salisbury axle), just make sure that you still have 5mm at both extents of travel.
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

So just set the bump stops to stop at that clearance when setting up the suspension?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

I haven't got any pics but B1 is the back bar that runs the width of the car at the bottom behind the seats.
The bottom bars of the transmission tunnel and the bottom of the luggage area are welded to it.

A photo would help but I have 25mm clear when sat on its wheels unlaiden ie no driver and no fuel tank fitted yet.
My tailing arms are, if anything drooping towards the rear so when car is loaded they will go to parallel but this will actually increase the distance
between axle & chassis rail.
