Nipples!

Where is the best place to buy metric brake unions, bleed nipples etc? I also need some 10mm x 1mm nuts to lock the flexi-hoses in place. I'm using Kunifer pipe.

Also, can anyone tell me if the budget (i.e. £20 ish flaring tools - as per a previous thread) are OK for Kunifer?

Any accessory shop sells nipples.

Install with plumbers PTFE tape on the thread and they will never seize.

Personally I would never use PTFE on any brake joint with the exception of the 1/8 x 27 npt tapered thread which needs ptfe to ensure a good seal.
I can do stainless steel m10, m8 & m7 nipples @ £2ea plus postage - these should never seize in & won't go rusty, hence look pretty too - worth the few pence extra in my opinion!

I used the cheap flaring tools to just flare the end of my kunifer fuel pipe and even that was asking too much of it really Worked fine on copper brake but the kunifer was so much harder that every tim I screwed down on the flare tool it just pushed the kunifer back through the grips.

but why not Russ? PTFE works fine, I use that myself and best of all it prevents air being drawn back through the thread when bleeding the brakes making it a simple job with just a hose.

Could you not anneal the metal at the end to soften it for forming the flare?

I was told NEVER to use PTFE tape on brake unions...
Due to the cyclic very high pressures involved, the tape can distort and lose the seal, hence no brakes!!!

Please just use pipes with flared ends!!

yeah but we're talking about the bleed screws not the connections...

the bleed screw is sealed by the cone at the tip and not the thread, though as I said when bleeding the brakes, air can be sucked up through the thread hampering bleeding but PTFE prevents this and helps stop the screw rusting in place.

Ive never had any joy with Kunifer and cheapo flare tools, as above too much slippage.
Use copper, easier to bend as well.

The issue with the ptfe tape - basically TTBOMK it is ok when used solely on a thread, however, depending on how clumsy, careless & cack handed the fitter is there is always the possibility of it being introduced into the pipe/braking system itself, so I would still say, as it's a safety issue, don't use it unless you have to & SFAIAA the only situation you might HAVE to use it is in sealing a tapered thread - & even these will frequently seal without the tape. That said everything Mr Whippy has said is basically correct - just make sure you sue him not me when you lose braking to one corner & crash!!!

The other issue is that stainless steel never corrodes so as well as being much less likely to indulge in the old "2 different metals" reaction it stays looking pretty & shiny whereas even if you paint your nipples () once they've been spannered & bled the paint will come off & they go rusty.

You can now get ptfe sealant in a liquid form, a bit like tipex, stays put and doesn't get pushed into the pipe.
