Rear brake calipers options
Guys going to just built my car now for sprints, hill climbs, track days etc,
So i'm not going to fit my sierra rear cal's, as these are heavy items and i have no need for a cable hand brake. But (isn't there
always) what caliper should i go for, my mates at the rallying usually fit fiesta front cals on there rear axles, but thats on a mk2 escort, now light
weight seven.
Any ideas?

UNDERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
OVERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the wall.
TORQUE is how far you take the wall with you.

I'm working on fitting bike calipers to the rear, fzr 600 look like having the correct piston area to replace sierra rear's without
having to change the mater cylinder just need to manufacture some new brackets, and either a flat adapter with more complex brackets, or a bell
arrangemeant with dead simple brackets.

If you use front calipers for the rear you are likely to upset the brake balance a bit too much.
istr Sierra rear calipers are 33mm bore, dependin on the year Fiesta front calipers are 48 to 51mm bore thats over twice the hydraulic area even
with a balance bar using different bore master cylinders for front and rear circuits getting that back into balance is going to take a bit of work.
It is far better to use a rear caliper that is approximately the right bore size to start with.

You might run into a problem with disc thickness motorcycle discs tend to be about 2/3 the thickness of car discs.

We have fitted ZX12 four pot radial mount calipers to the rear of our Phoenix. This necessitated turning the discs down to 7mm thickness and about 4mm
off the diameter for wheelrim clearance purposes. Be warned, they are still a very tight fit under 13" wheels. Plenty of clearance under
15's.
Our ex-Capri RS 7 x 13's are OK but the same size pepperpots are not.
Brake balance could be an issue as already mooted but we have bias adjustment and ultimately we could alter the master cylinders to achieve an
acceptable state of balance.
You may have guessed that they are as yet untested.
I understand that some people use VW Golf rear calipers of some sort. They are alloy but otherwise look similar to Sierra ones.

calipers
just for information sierra rear calipers are 44mm bore, you need a piston with about 60mm or equivalent surface area for the fronts to maintain bias
on a standard system. if you need lightweight calipers try mini one calipers or golf mk4 calipers, both popular.
