I have used:

Castrol Differential EPX 80W-90
SAE 80W-90, API, GL5

and for the my type 9 gearbox:

Castrol Manual EP80W
SAE 80W, API, GL4, MIL-L-2105, MB235.1, ZF TE-ML02

both from Halfords, general consensus on the Westfield forum was these were exactly what was required. Think the GL bit is as important as the SAE rating.

GL4 for the gearbox and GL5 for the diff and the two don't mix

Just out of interest my local garage recommend to put automatic transmission fluid in gearboxes these days, they recon they were advised to do this by ford, aparently it sorts out several gearbox related problems. They DIDNT recomend it for the dif though.
Would apreciate any comments.

I'm sure I've got one, just don't know where I've put it

That stuff is like p!ss compared to EP80 that is used in type 9 box. They probably use it in newer front wheel drive boxes with the diff incorporated, but I haven't heard of it. Type 9 has no lubrication problems with EP80 anyway so why risk it.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
