Help needed - possible probs with rear Sierra bearing
I've just finished refurbishing and putting together my Sierra rear hubs. No probs with the right hand threaded nut, torqued it to 270NM.
however, when I came to do the left hand threaded one I left the torque wrench as it was but I forgot that it only "clicks" in one
direction. Consequently I kept up the leverage to the extent where think I've overdone it - probably something a bit over 300NM.
I've slackened off the hub nut and shaken the assembly loose then redone the nut to the correct torque but the hub is noticeably more difficult
to turn than the other one. Not seized up and mega stiff, just "tighter".
I've got some brand new Sierra front hubs and the rear one that was torqued correctly gives about the same resistance to turning as the new fron
hubs, that's why I'm concerned about the other rear one.
So, have I screwed up the bearings by over tightening them  ? I should mention that all bearings are new replacements and packed with grease.
I'm a bilingual illiterate. I can't read in two languages.

My Sierra raer hubs were stiff to turn when first installed, they loosen up after the first 50 miles.
I was concerned, seems to be pretty common so do not worry.
NB overtighting would not affect much, the bearings are super hard, the hub bit is cast, the restriction would be the strength of the screw threads
and as not stripped good to go IMHO

Thanks for that. I suspect I'm maybe being a bit over concerned and it's nice to get a second opinion.

it will be ok. drive it a bit and if the bearing starts screaming then you know you have buggered it.
