handbrake cable and the inspector

I think I might have read somewhere that a handbrake cable cannot simply be clamped but must have a proper fixing on the end. Is this true or did I dream it?

My 3 wheeler will have to go for MSVA and whilst I can't find anything about it in the MSVA manual, I'd rather not fail on it. I've welded the wheel cables to the nipples at each end but there is still the main cable to the handle. It is currently clamped by an M10 bolt with a hole drilled through it (for adjustment. Do I need to think up something else?

Not seen the manual, but if its the same sort of regulations as bikes, i've never seen a motorbike with a handbrake either!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

The regulations for under MSVA say you have to have a stand or a handbrake. It specifies that the hand brake must work on all the wheels of one axle and gives the forces it much achieve. There is no construction not on it but that doesn't mean they won't fail you if they don't like it.

I've heard of SVA inspectors asking for certs for home-made crimps.

As long as your not taking it to Newcastle for the test you MAY get away with it....
