Rack Oil ??

Hey up guys, just been refurbing/painting my rack after remving the rubbers a shite load of oil and water came out dont know how the feck the water got in there, but in putting it back how the hell do you refill it with oil taken the top plate off thinking it was in there but there just seems to be a white plastic doodah, how much oil does it take,I take it it would be 90's gear oil.
As you can probably tell I'm too tight fisted to buy a manual but as this is the only bit thats Escort I cant see the point.
Cheers,
Bob

my recon rack is full of grease of some sort. Apparently they fill them using some sort of attachment to their airline, to push the grease right through the rack.

Semi liquid grease for a Sierra steering rack or hypoid 90 gear oil for Escort. Diff oil should be o.k. There doesn't seem to be a quantity specified anywhere. You should put it in when reassembling but the slipper bearing might be the best bet.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

According to my Haynes Book of Lies for the Escort Mk II, it's 1/4 pint (0.15 litre) of your finest EP90 grade oil, poured through the cover plate. Alternatively, you can pour it in one end if you're fitting new rubber bellows (make sure you've got a bellows fitted at the other end first!)

cheers,

david

EP90 is recommended m8, but tbh most people use grease. It will definately not be a prob. In fact you will not sufer from oil leaks on garage floor.
Cheers
