Damn you rear brakes

Grr, the CV joints wont fit inside the hub tubes of my de dion axle

Looks like I am going to have to use push in shafts and use caliper conversion brackets. I hope they bring the caliper in the same place as the standard brackets. Was hoping for a nice simple strip down and rebuild....

Anyone know if push in shafts fit the bearings in disc brake hubs?

I didnt undo the nuts on my pushin shafts when removing them, so I havent been able to check.

Reason I ask is that I have put new nearings in my disc hubs

And when you finish with that, you might want to put some new bearings as well!!

The ford sierra lobro's should fit inside the gts de-dion, i did have to tidy a small area of weld but other than that no issues.

I thought they should, but the inside of the tube is 100.5mm and the lobros are 102.8mm

Might be worth giving Darren a call ?

Just for info when I changed from push in's to lobros they wouldn't go in the uprights so I put the stub axles in the lathe and turned a chamfer where the abs teeth were. This helped mine fit the same as the push in shafts did.

Thanks Steve.

Due to the length of the tubes on the de dion I cannot do that

Will push in shafts fit in bolt on hubs by any chance? If so it will save me a load of hassle.

Not sure mate, my back end is out of a Cosworth 2wd and the bearings and hub retainers are bigger, but, the holes line up and bolt to the upright no problem. I've also got XR4i drums on the back which fitted ok after I'd ground the caliper lugs off.... bad move cause now I fancy some discs on the back!!

the splines are very different from what I remember...

What you have with drum brakes is on the left in the photo. On the right is my solution, a very rare beast, lobro stub for drum brakes from an early euro xr4x4.

Below is an image I have nabbed of the disk stub. The splines are longer and smaller diameter.

Thanks, yep just managed to undo the hub nuts on mine and they cant be interchanged.

So I am after some brakets for my rear calipers. I'll take come comparison pics tomorrow. The hubs are quite significantly different.

More work, hassle and expense I could do without.

I already have the push in shafts etc from the old diff, so not really a major problem.

Just a lot of time and effort wasted on the bolt on stuff. Never mind though.

All I need to fit everything is some disc adaptors and new bearings for the hubs.

at least you didn't pay the postage on that whole diff then

what kind of de dion have you got ?
I'm guessing that its a bit different from my dax one....

btw - if you don't want those flanges any more I could take them back and reunite them with the diff they came from (not worried about the cover)
