Does anyone know of a MacPherson strut which can be dismantled?

I'd like to convert to coil overs but the struts fitted to my car are not designed to be taken to pieces and I need to do this to grind off the original spring seat and weld on the adjustable seat.

If anyone knows of a suitable strut I'd be very pleased to hear from them. Thank you.

I'm using AE101 Corolla struts in the back of my midi. They have a threaded top nut and come apart pretty easily. Some pics in the Jul 2008 entries on my build log here.
