Bolted Stub axles 2

Further to my earlier post about wanting bolted stub axles on my mx5 rear uprights
Post 1

In a flurry of vehicle Frankenstein like behaviour I constructed this.

Its a stub axle and hub from a sierra machined to have identical bearing surface dimensions as the mx5 rear hub and stub axle setup.

A lot of the hub dimensions were VERY convenient.

What do you guys think? Good idea or deathtrap idea.

I take it you'll torque the hub nut the same as the normal MX5 one ?

That was the plan. Unless anyone can see a problem?

do the MX5 hubs just torque up or do they pull the 2 parts hard against each other ?
(sorry I'm not explaining that very well)

if its on std. MX5 bearings, all the hub dims. match and the tighten the same way as the MX5 ones....
so nothing is going to fall off or get over tightened - then I don't see any problem

thats a good question,

I'm going to torque up the mx5 hub assembly both in and out of the upright and take some measurements tonight to see if theres any difference.

everything is ok though either way as i haven't finish machined the sierra hub for length yet.

That looks like a good solution.

So you've turned the Sierra drive flange down so it now goes through the MX5 bearings?
If yes then the only issue I see is that the flange itself will have a weaker area at the edge where you've reduced it so it could be more prone to cracking but as the splined stub goes right through & will be bolted up tight then I can't see it happening. Even if it did the stub would still be holding it all together.

yeah thats pretty much it and shorted the stub slightly.
Remember also the inner stub is pressed into the inner bearing races. There is plenty of thickness left, very little material was removed.

I will polish and mag particle inspect the machined surface prior to use though.

To confirm, the mx5 bearing races are pinched together by (enormous) hub nut torque.
