What's involved in stripping an Escort rack?
Just bought a Mk2 Escort rack on e-bay which looks as though someone has tried to take appart. (The flange which goes around the input shaft
wasn't sitting square and one of the bolts was loose).
I haven't been able to find any instructions for stripping / setting. Is there anything on line or is it relatively obvious once you start?
I'm mainly concerned about the various shims and whether it's necessary to measure the input torque on re-assembly.
Any help would be appreciated.
John.

Haynes Manual; Ford Escort '75 - '80, gives you a step by step stripping and re-assembly guide. Page 199...
If you ain't got one I can scan and e-mail the relevant pages for you.

When adjusting steering racks it is essential to check the rack for binding at full left and right lock as if you adjust it perfectly in the centre
where 90+% of the wear occurs it will be too tight at full lock.
Also this will show up a bent rack.
