Brakes on Sierras

Are the front discs/uprights of Sierras with all round discs different from the discs/uprights of Sierra with discs and drums?

If there is a difference then what is it and would it matter to use the front discs from one (with rear drums) matched with the rear discs from the other?

Also, did the design of the discs change much through the Sierra run ie. did they improve them at all. Only reason I ask is it's easier to find parts if they can be from any age car!

Any information would be greatfully recieved.

Thanks,

James

I'll get whatever rear disc set up i can find.
Unless you go into cosworth sierras the brakes are all the same, but to be safe ask simon as he has been informative before.
By the way tight wad have you bought a sierra manual yet?

Re. All round discs.
I believe Ford fitted these in preference to square ones mainly due to the fact that circles are inherently more suitable for the purpose. :

You know, I thought something rather similar myself whilst re-reading my own post. Wondered how long it'd be before a comment was made!

Thanks for the info guys.

Yes Bob, I have bought a Haynes and library one had gone back! Problem is, I don't trust it anymore after what everyone has said!

I got another donor at the weekend, 2.9i V6 4x4 with rear discs, which I'm using as a runaround till the tax runs out. Comes with a spare engine & rwd gearbox and a complete V12 xjs .

I now have a drum donor and a rear disc donor so if you need any digi photos or measurements taken then let me know and I'll do my best to get the info. Can't help with the used on thou, zero knowledge on that subject.
