Seirra diff play
I think I have some play in my 3.62 LSD diff on my mk, how hard are they to rebuild and do you need special tools.
Also read about putting shims in whats that all about.

Not sure just clunks when setting off sometimes.

The planet gears start to disintegrate (happened to mine). That means a whole new viscous unit. Grab hold of the drivers side driveshaft and give it a
wobble, if you can feel play then you'd best prepare the wallet.
If its clunking then its likely that its past the point of just new bearings unfortunately.

First check the propshaft to flange bolts are tight --- they tend to slacken off.

When you say 'play' do you mean up and down movement or in and out (so towards the wheel and back to the diff)? Both my drive shafts have
in and out movement, but no play up and down, is that usual?

As you have LSD I guess that you have bolt on shafts, and with these some side to side, (in and out), is to be expected. I would check your propshaft
bolts first, (as said above), and make sure they are tight, while in the tunnel you could try turning the diff flange and see if there is any play
there, if there is then its a backlash problem, which you "can" do yourself, but it aint easy. The easiest fix, as your in essex, is
Road and Race Transmissions not close but not too far either. You would need to remove the diff and take it to them for check and repair as
required. HTH Ray

Cheers for the reply. Mine isn't an LSD or bolt on shafts so would the same apply?

I'm not too sure with the push in type, never having had one like that, but as they are similar in principal, I would guess that yes you would
get some side to side play, may be wrong though so don't take it as gospel. Cheers Ray

Thanks for the reply - I have checked with a friend this morning and he said there should be some play as well.

Checked my diff, does not seem to be excesive play on the input flange and prop bolts are all tight.
There is however slack movement in the driveshafts when moving the wheels.How much if any slack should there be.
