Brake options?

Hi guys,

I'll be starting the build on my recently acquired Haynes Roadster chassis soon. It's come with loads of stuff including suspension arms and fully refurbed Sierra hubs. It's got a pair of new rear calipers / carriers so I just need to confirm which discs (solid or vented) go with them. What are my options for the front then? I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to all things Ford. Std Sierra or larger Cosworth discs? It should have a BMW M52 engine so isn't going to be the lightest and should be seeing plenty of track time too. Will the smaller (260mm) brakes be up to it?
I'm hoping to use either 15" or 16" wheels. What's a good / readilly available / cheap Ford option? I was thinking Mondeo items, but are the offsets OK?

Solid discs will be fine on the rear. Up front sandard Seirra will be up to the job. They're designed to stop standard car fully loaded with a caravan as well so will be more than enough for even a heavy seven. Alternativly for more bling and less unsprung weight you could use Wilwoods. Rally Design do a direct replacement kit for sierra hubs.
If you're not going for a twin master cylinder/bias-bar set-up and sticking with the tandem master cyl', then with no servo the brakes will feel a lot harder than you might be used to. It's worth trying to use either a none servo Mk1/2 Fiesta or Fiat master cyinder for better feel.

Wheel wise I'd go as small as possible so go for the 15". Small gives better ride and handling in a light car and reduces unsprung weight. I think 15" is what the Haynes was designed for and there might be a problem withclearance below that. Also odd sizes (13", 15", 17" rather than even numbers) tend to have more tyre choices available.

So I'll just need std Sierra discs and calipers and some decent pads for the track then?
It's already got twin m/c's fitted in the pedal box ready to accept a bias bar. so that's probably the way I'll go. I know all about hard brakes (and no stopping!!) I've got a Lancia Montecarlo with no servo.
So any Sierra fitment 15" then? Are Mondeos offsets OK?

Think the Haynes uses ET35 offset wheels, as the Sierra. Mondeo (and fwd Escort and Focus) are probably the same but can't swear to it.

Mintex 1144 pads are good for road and track use. Don'tforget you need a lable for the bias-bar at IVA saying not to adjust it; There's a few suppliers of them with the correct wording.
